PE Grant

How the school has used the PE and Sports Grant, 2015/16

 

At Wanstead Church School we recognise the value of all aspects of Physical Education. We ensure that we provide a wide range of opportunities for our children to take part in both within and outside of the normal school day.

 

All schools received a grant to support them in developing the quality of Physical Education; this grant provided £8000 plus £5 per pupil.

Wanstead Church School received £ 9000 for 2015/16.  

 

Identified needs

  • Improve teacher subject knowledge and thereby confidence levels in delivering the PE and sport curriculum

  • Increase the aspiration of pupils to be fit and “sporty”

  • Develop the offer of extra-curricular sporting opportunities

  • Encourage healthy lifestyles

  •  

  • Overview of PE and Sporting provision

  • At Wanstead Church School we want all of our children to enjoy healthy and active lifestyles. We encourage the participation in physical activities through:

     

  • Curriculum PE ( all classes have 2 timetabled sessions of PE per week)

  • Employment of qualified sports coaches to deliver high quality PE and to develop teachers’ capacity in delivering PE

  • Resourcing playgrounds with equipment to encourage active play

  • Providing high quality outdoor learning across EYFS

  • Encouraging walking, scooting and cycling to school (as part of School Travel Plan)

  • Holding ‘Bikers’ Breakfasts regulalry

  • Taking opportunities to access and engage with local and national sporting events

  • Sports’ Days in Summer term for all year groups

  • Swimming (Summer term for Year 3)

  • Outdoor and Adventurous activities (substantial aspect of the three residential experiences offered in years 4,5 and 6)

  • Extra curricular sports clubs (netball, football, gym, sailing, multi-skills,dance)

  • Local sports events (Redbridge mini-games, swimming gala)

  • Subscribing to the Redbridge School Games programme

  • Participation in the local competitive football leagues

  • Celebrating individual sporting achievemnet gained outside of school

 

Planned use of grant

 

  • Engage the services of qualified sports coaches to deliver high quality PE lessons

  • All teachers to work collaboratively with the coaches to support effective professional development in aspects of PE

  • To develop a skill based PE curriculum

 

The effectiveness of the grant will be monitored and evaluated throughout the year to inform decisions about the use of any future funding (it is anticipated that the grant will be provided until 2020).
