The Owl and the Pussycat S6 Identify rhyming words and compose rhyming couplets.
Task 1
What rhyming words in the text can you recall?
Re-read/recite the beginning of poem and look for rhyming words, for example boat and note. What’s the same about these words? [They rhyme because they have same final sound.]
What other words rhyme with boat?
Make a list.
What other pairs of rhyming words can you find in the poem?
Make a list.
Task 2
Choose a pair of rhyming words from your list and create some nonsense rhymes. Record your rhyming couplets in sentences with a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop ( ? or ! ) at the end.
Here are some examples:
The Owl and the Pussycat went on a boat. They took a goat but forgot their coat.
When you were out in your car, did you see that bright star?
