Reception Class Learning Programme

Welcome to Reception class page. I hope you will enjoy keeping up with all the exciting things we do in our class and read about ways you can help your child at home. Our reception teacher is Mrs McLean and she is supported by a full time Nursery Nurse(or Early Years' Educator) Mrs Slack and we are lucky to have a part time teaching assistant this term -Mrs Marsh; who will be helping us on Monday-Thursday morning.
In reception we use the practise guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage(EYFS), to plan an enjoyable and challenging curriculum for children both inside and outside. We follow a play based curriculum around the 7 areas of learning. Our main aim is to have fun and learn through play.

Children begin each session with a whole class learning activity and are then free to choose activities which follow their interests or may work in small groups with an adult. We have a weekly music session on Wednesday, Drama on Monday morning and gym on Friday afternoons. The children will have the opportunity to learn how to programme Bee-Bot and take their own photographs using their own class digital camera. They have access to their own computer in the computer suite and will be shown how to use a I-PAD. We regularly visit our own school library for a story and to choose a book to take home and have regular cooking activities. This term we will be making bread rolls and pizza as part of work on harvest.
We have Stay and Play sessions each term for parents to enjoy playing with their child in Reception and to continue to strengthen the school-home link.

This term our topic will be All about me, Autumn, Harvest and Christmas. We have a daily phonics session and follow the 'Letters and Sounds' phonics programme. In Mathematics we will be consolidating all previous learnt skills from the nursery in Number, counting, shape and measures.
