Welcome
At Wanstead Church School our vision is to empower every child to approach life with Wisdom, Compassion and Strength so that they can shine in everything they do. We believe that Jesus is the light of the world and that we are called upon to let our light shine before others (Matthew 5:16).
Wanstead Church School is a one-form entry Church of England primary school with a Nursery situated in the heart of Wanstead. It is a proudly unique and historic school in the London Borough of Redbridge being the smallest school in the borough and the only Church of England primary school. We are proud of our "close-knit and welcoming" community (SIAMS June 25) where school feels like home and the people feel like family.
"The values of Wisdom, Compassion and Strength are embedded in this small school and pupils thrive in its caring, happy community" (Ofsted May 24). Our Christian values underpin every element of the children’s learning experiences at Wanstead Church School, and are fully inclusive and respectful of all faiths, religions and world views.
Our "powerful and affirming vision is at the heart of the life of the school" and everyone is "inspired to shine so that they will bring light into the lives of others." Our school gives children "confidence that they are valued and that each of them can shine in different and unique ways" (SIAMS June 25). We live by our motto, "We Can Shine!".
Our children "behave impeccably" (Ofsted May 24) and we provide extensive enrichment opportunities for the children right from Nursery onwards, ensuring they are prepared for life beyond Wanstead Church School and into the adult world. They learn to approach life with Wisdom, Compassion and Strength both within the school and out into the wider community. They have plentiful opportunities to be leaders and we empower them to use their voices to make a difference in the world and to shine their light for others.
Wanstead Church School is a happy, diverse and inclusive place to learn and grow. Our curriculum is rich, engaging and ambitious and our children achieve well throughout the school. The school is over 200 years old, having first been built in 1786, and has held a special place in the heart of the community ever since.
